Park City has long been known as the skidom of Utah, but times are changing. What many people don’t know is it’s also a golfer’s paradise as home to some of the best courses in the country. The area boasts championship courses designed by renowned golfers and golf course architects like Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio, Mark O’Meara, Pete Dye and Rees Jones. Dave Boyden, a golf course designer with local roots, has helped design dozens of luxury golf courses and developments in the U.S. and Mexico, including The Eagle Course that is opening this summer on his family’s land at the new Wohali development just south of Echo Reservoir near Coalville.
Together, these courses offer unique and challenging golf experiences that are tough to match by other mountain destinations in this country. When the snow begins to melt in the mountains and summer emerges, Park City becomes a hub for golf enthusiasts with a wide range of places to play as well as activities and events for players of all levels. From private and public courses to women’s and men’s leagues and golf camps for kids, there is something for everyone in the area’s dynamic golf community.
There’s no question that part of the attraction is the stunning natural beauty. Golfers can enjoy breathtaking views of the Wasatch Mountains, and the courses are purposefully designed to make the most of natural features, like narrow fairways flanked by pines or tee boxes perched at high elevations.
“Our golf course takes advantage of soft, rolling hills and bent grass fairways with larger-than-life views of Mount Timpanogos and the Jordanelle Reservoir for a unique golf experience,” says Brian Renschler, director of agronomy for Tuhaye at Talisker Club.
Private courses at Park Meadows Country Club, Glenwild Golf Club, Promontory, Tuhaye and Jeremy Ranch Golf & Country Club as well as Red Ledges in Heber and Victory Ranch in Kamas offer exclusive access and social opportunities year-round, not just during golf season. These clubs and developments offer various amenities for members, including access to golf academies, driving ranges, spas, fitness centers, events and family programs.
And with the arrival of the latest installment of new golf courses like the Tiger Woods course at Marcella, players have plenty of options to play like a pro, possibly with a pro. In addition, there are short courses like The Hills at Promontory and The Nest at Wohali (opening in 2026) that offer par-three play that is ideal for families, young and new players, and golfers looking to perfect their short game.
Meanwhile, public courses like the Canyons Golf Course at Park City Mountain Resort, Park City Golf Club and Soldier Hollow Golf Course in Midway are open to golfers of all levels. Most offer affordable rates, lessons, leagues and fun seasonal events. A big draw for families is the midweek Kids Swing Free program at Canyons Golf Course. Twilight golf at Park City Golf Club is another popular and inexpensive family-friendly option for golfers to get in a few holes.
“We’ve seen a sharp increase in golf visitors — men, women and kids — here at the Park City course in the last two to three years,” confirms Vaughn Robinson, manager of Park City Golf Club.
Park City’s golf culture encourages participation in a range of local, state and national events like Drive to the Championship golf tournament that supports Park City High School Football and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness tournament that invites women, men and youth to play for a cure. This summer, Park City is one of the stops of the Legends Celebrity Golf Tour, taking place at Canyons Golf Course in July.
The core principles of golf have remained constant, but the culture around the game is evolving in Park City and beyond. These changes are reflected in everything from golf attire to the way technology is integrated into the game, shifting how this centuries-old game is adapting to modern times. As Park City’s golf culture continues to progress, it has become even more clear that the area is no longer just a winter destination but a must-visit destination for golfers around the world.

Turning mountain golf into a year-round sport
The golf season may seem short in the mountains, but golf simulators are gaining popularity and ushering in a new era of golf. Golfing enthusiasts in Park City no longer must wait until summer to hit the fairways and greens. With plenty of indoor golf clubs popping up, it’s easy to enjoy a round or two in a climate-controlled environment all year long.
“Indoor golf around the world has surpassed outdoor golf, which is incredible to imagine but makes sense. If you think about the large population of people who live in cities around the world, indoor golf is much more convenient,” says Justin Johnson, a PGA professional and owner of IndoorGolfClub. “As for Park City, the demand for simulator golf is crazy. Park City is becoming a summer mecca, and golf is a big part of summers now. The problem is a good outdoor golf season lasts four months, five months if you’re lucky. We’ve seen huge success with IndoorGolfClub.”
The Basin Recreation Fieldhouse – There is plenty to do at this sports facility, including golf simulator cages available to the public. It’s an excellent option for families or groups looking to enjoy a day of fun.
IndoorGolfClub – IndoorGolfClub offers lounge-like golf rooms with bays using Trackman simulators. Coaches and lessons as well as memberships are available.
Park City Golf Simulator – This indoor golf venue provides golfers with convenient 24-hour access, memberships and Trackman simulators for golfers of all levels.
Topgolf Swing Suites – Located at The St. Regis Deer Valley and WAREHOUSE, a new high-end car storage facility and social club in Park City. Swing Suites feature simulator bays, virtual games and lounge areas.
Additionally, several local golf communities such as Promontory, Glenwild and Wohali offer Trackman simulators as an option for players looking to balance out their winter golf game. Thanks to Trackman’s innovative technology, golfers can now preview and play all 18 holes of the new championship course at Wohali and the new Tiger Woods course at Marcella.
